Mr Peter Thompson

Peter holds qualifications in environmental science and law and has been a practising solicitor in NSW for over twenty years – _initially in private practice, followed by general counsel roles in local government since 2005. He has been accredited by the Law Society of NSW as a specialist local government and planning lawyer since 1999. Peter is also a public notary.

Prior to joining Wagga Wagga City Council as General Manager, Peter worked with Tamworth Regional Council since it was formed in 2004. He delivered a range of roles, usually holding two positions at the same time including General Counsel, Internal Ombudsman, Assistant General Manager and Director of Planning & Compliance.

Peter recognises that it is a privilege to perform the role of General Manager at Wagga Wagga City Council. His ambition for the region is to build on the success of previous community leaders in continuing the role of Wagga Wagga as a leading regional city in NSW. His measure of success will be a city which offers its residents affordable, high quality lifestyles, with a broad choice of careers and business opportunities in a safe environment.
