Regional Cities NSW Elects New Leadership Team
Regional Cities NSW (RCNSW) has this week welcomed a new Chair for 2021-2023. At RCNSW’s last meeting for 2020, Cr Tim Overall, Mayor of Queanbeyan-Palerang Council was elected the position of Chair of RCNSW and Cr Kevin Mack, Mayor Albury City Council, was elected to the position of Deputy Chair.
Cr Overall thanked his colleagues for their support, noting the important task ahead which would require working with the NSW Government to make sure regional cities were well placed to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We look forward to working with our State colleagues on the many opportunities that now exist for business and people to make a regional city home,” Cr Overall said.
“We have identified the increased interest of Sydney-siders in the lifestyle on offer in our cities and with the assistance of government we can secure the future for regional NSW through policy development and advocacy promoting our regions are liveable alternatives to Sydney.”
Cr Overall has taken over from Cr Col Murray, Mayor of Tamworth Regional Council, who was the inaugural Chair of RCNSW. Cr Murray oversaw the formation of the alliance and also championed the Memorandum of Understanding between RCNSW and the NSW Government.
Cr Overall expressed his gratitude to Cr Murray and thanked him for his steady leadership of the group over the past two years.
RCNSW alliance will meet in March 2021 under the leadership of Chair Cr Overall and Deputy Chair Cr Mack.
Meet Cr Tim Overall
Cr Tim Overall was first elected to Queanbeyan City Council in 2004 and elected Mayor in 2008. He has an Economics Degree from ANU and during 1969 - 72 served as a 2nd Lieutenant RA Inf.
Mr Overall has 25 years’ experience in Senior Management having held the roles of Operations Director, McIlwraith Ltd (Mining, Transport), Managing Director Singapore Shipping Corporation and CEO Ambulance Service of NSW. On relocating back to the region in 1996, he was appointed Executive Director Australian Red Cross in Canberra. He has served as Chairman, Havelock Community Housing, Board Chair, Australian Technical College and is currently on the Queanbeyan Development Board and the Canberra Business Council (Regional Representative).
Cr Tim Overall was first elected to Queanbeyan City Council in 2004 and elected Mayor in 2008. He was re-elected in 2012.
Mr Overall was appointed the Administrator of the merged Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council in 2016. Cr Overall was elected onto the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council at the first election of QPRC in September 2017 and was elected Mayor by the councillors. He was re-elected by Councillors as Mayor in 2019.
