Regional Cities NSW Welcomes Announcement of Regional Job Precincts
Regional Cities New South Wales (RCNSW) has this week welcomed twin announcement’s by the NSW Government of a new Regional Job Precincts initiative and that Albury City Council will be the first project funded.
Cr Tim Overall, RCNSW Chair and Mayor of Queanbeyan-Palerang Council said the initiative was a fantastic outcome for regional NSW, which was primed to grow as people and businesses look for opportunities to make the switch from Sydney in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Job Precincts has been a key priority of the RCNSW alliance since inception and we are thrilled that one of our members’ cities, Albury City Council, was chosen as the first site,” Cr Overall said.
In launching the program NSW Deputy Premier, the Hon John Barilaro MP said “We need to drive investment to our regions, create new jobs and help our State to thrive again, and this is one way the NSW Government is doing exactly that.”
The Regional Job Precincts initiative is an extension of the Special Activation Precinct program and aims to provide planning support to help fast-track approvals to drive growth, investment and development opportunities within regional NSW. Four locations will be selected for the program as part of an initial round.
RCNSW Deputy Chair, Cr Kevin Mack, Mayor of Albury City Council said the new initiative is a great win for the community and would boost business growth and job opportunities right across the Albury region, building on the work already done as part of the Albury-Wodonga regional deal.
The first of four Regional Job Precincts will be located in Albury City Council in the NEXUS Industrial Precinct. The Regional Job Precincts are part of the NSW Government’s Special Activation Precinct program and the $4.2 billion Snowy Hydro Legacy Fund to help drive recovery in NSW.
Additional locations for Regional Job Precincts will be announced in coming months.
